- "I am the heir of Kallig and Tulak Hord, and Master of the dead."
- ―Darth Nox
Discovered as a slave, the Sith was brought to Korriban for training at a time in which the Sith Order had become more liberal and was accepting non-Imperials to be trained as Sith. Upon arrival at the Sith Academy on Korriban the acolyte was assigned to Overseer Harkun instructing other non-Imperial Sith, who he held in contempt. After time spent training on Korriban the future Inquisitor was noticed by the Sith Lord Zash who recognized their potential and selected the individual as her apprentice after emerging as the last of the group.
At some point during their exploration of the Valley of the Dark Lords, the individual discovered Khem Val, a Dashade, who many powerful Sith Lords had discovered before but dared not investigate closely; conversely the individual freed Val, whose last master had been the great Tulak Hord, and the Dashade followed this individual, his new master.
Under the tutelage of Darth Zash
After being given Zash's lightsaber and told to meet Zash on Dromund Kaas, the Inquisitor was confronted by servants of Darth Skotia, Zash's superior, who sought to kill the Inquisitor before Zash could carry out her plans. With Khem's assistance, the Inquisitor survived the ambush.
Upon arriving on Dromund Kaas, Skotia himself intercepted the Inquisitor to pass a warning on to Zash: he knew what she was up to, and he will ensure that she will not succeed. When the Inquisitor made it to Zash's office at the Sith Citadel and informed her of these developments, Zash became infuriated, knowing that they could not pursue Tulak Hord's secrets with Skotia standing in the way. Zash herself could not kill Skotia, as power plays made the Dark Council nervous. To that end, she dispatched her new apprentice to gain assets to kill Skotia, gaining a tablet that would force his Trandoshan bodyguards to abandon him and a prototype cyborg disabler. After confronting and defeating Skotia, with his last breath, the Dark Lord warned that Inquisitor that Zash will turn against them as she killed him.
Eventually sent to the Dark Temple on Dromund Kaas by Zash, the Sith apprentice discovered ancient roots to a Sith Lord and enemy of the ancient Dark Lord Tulak Hord, Aloysius Kallig. Kallig recognized that Inquisitor to be of his bloodline and the means to restore his family name to greatness. He warned the Inquisitor that the Sith play an endless game of treachery, a game his heir must win. He advises to beware the master and apprentice and never to be taken by surprise.
Also while at the temple, the individual found a relic of Tulak Hord captured millennial earlier by one of the individual's ancestors before his death. After learning of the apprentice's ancestry and recovering the artifact, they ventured back to Darth Zash and learning that many other artifacts were hidden around the galaxy, the apprentice was then given the task of finding these artifacts on Balmorra, Nar Shaddaa, Tatooine and Alderaan.
After acquiring all of Tulak Hord's artifacts, Darth Zash asks the Inquisitor to return to the Dark Temple on Dromund Kaas to begin the ritual. However, Kallig returned to warn his heir that Zash had been performing rituals to protect herself from the Force. He advised caution when facing Zash, such as bringing an ally.
Taking Khem back to the Dark Temple, the Inquisitor discovered that Zash had aged rapidly from increased exposure to the dark side, barely kept at bay by her rituals. Now, she sought to use Hord's artifacts to forcibly take her apprentice's body. But before she could complete the ritual, Khem interrupted. Though her body died, Zash's spirit wound up in Khem's body. Furious at her apprentice's betrayal, Zash threatened to use Khem to exact her revenge. However, Zash discovered that because of the Dashade's bond to his master, she too was bound to serve her own apprentice. Worse, she had to fight Khem for dominance of his body.
Lord of the Sith
- "You are Lord Kallig now. It was once a glorious name, use it well."
- ―Aloysius Kallig
Despite inheriting Zash's power base and the title of Sith Lord, the victory was not to last. Darth Thanaton, a member of the Dark Council and a staunch traditionalist, sent Lord Kallig into the tomb of Darth Andru, expecting his foe to become the deceased Sith Lord's latest victim. Only Aloysius's timely intervention prevented that. To gain more power to defeat Thanaton, Aloysius instructed Kallig to go to the tomb of the Sith Lord Ergast to learn the Force Walk, a ritual that can bind Force ghosts and draw on their power. After binding both Ergast and Andru's spirits, Kallig returned to face Thanaton, but the Dark Lord still proved more powerful and seemingly killed Kallig. Luckily, the two ghosts kept Kallig from dying and Zash's other apprentices saved their new Master before their bodies were disposed of.
Requiring more power before facing Thanaton, Kallig heads to Taris to find another ghost. After acquiring the ghost, as well as a new apprentice named Ashara Zavros, Kallig picked up a distress call from Quesh, as Zash's apprentices had stolen the key to Thanaton's private meditation chamber. Kallig managed to gain the key but failed to save the apprentices.
After acquiring one last ghost on Hoth, Kallig returned to Dromund Kaas to face Thanaton. Unfortunately, the power of four ghosts proved too much to handle. Kallig's body started failing and the ghosts threatened to drive the young Sith insane. Stealing journals of Darth Iratus and Darth Vilus, Kallig figured out that they too suffered similar problems and went to Belsavis and Voss respectively to find a cure.
On Belsavis, Kallig sought a Rakatan device that stabilized their body, but Voss was a different matter. Though the Voss created a mind-healing ritual to subdue the ghosts, the Voss had foreseen that Kallig would disrupt the Voss way of life but refused to use force to convince the Sith Lord to leave. Enlisting the help of a Gormak named Hadrik, Kallig was able to successfully subdue the ghosts before smuggling the Gormak offworld for his assistance.
At the same time, Moff Valion Pyron, an enemy of Thanaton, contacted Kallig to discuss an alliance. He helped the Inquisitor build a power base. Successfully finishing a superweapon codenamed Silencer that Thanaton canceled, capable of annihilating an entire fleet, Kallig and Pyron demonstrated its effectiveness to a group of anti-Thanaton Moffs. The results were satisfactory.
Confronting Darth Thanaton
Thanaton soon called for a Kaggath on Corellia, an opportunity for one another to silence their foe once and for all. Thanaton put many resources to shutting down Kallig's base of operations and fought the lower-level Sith Lord as much as the Republic defenders. Kallig still managed to get ahead using knowledge, and power to avert disaster.
Thanaton finally challenged Kallig to a duel on Corellia. But when it became apparent that he would lose, Thanaton fled to Korriban to plead to the Dark Council for the former slave's execution. Unfortunately for Thanaton, the Sith Lord interrupted his speech before he could convince anyone. Curious to see why Thanaton was unable to destroy Kallig himself, the Dark Council allowed the two the duel again in front of them.
After one last struggle, Kallig overthrew Darth Thanaton for the last time. The Dark Council, deeming Darth Thanaton unworthy, ended his life and offered his position to the young Sith. The Dark Council also elevated Kallig to the position of "Darth", bestowing the name Darth Nox. Nox was now head of the Pyramid of Ancient Knowledge, one of the twelve power-bases of the Sith Empire.
Afterwards, the newly christened Darth Nox returned to Dromund Kaas to enforce dominion upon those formally of the pyramid under Darth Thanaton, and gain their allegiance. As soon as they are all dismissed, the ghosts pleaded to be freed but Nox can choose to keep them under bondage.
Nox was later needed on Ilum, to assist in crippling the Republic's efforts to stand up to the Empire's invasion. As a member of the Dark Council Nox was also present when Darth Malgus announced his "new Empire", and was one of the few individuals in the strike team to take him down.
Personality and traits
Manipulative, cunning and ambitious, Darth Nox used treachery to break both allies and enemies, delving deep into experimenting with long forbidden powers in order increase influence and seize authority.
A sadist, Darth Nox took great plesure in the suffering of others and would often torture minions and opponents for simple amusement. The Sith Lord electrocuted Ashara Zavros until she agreed to become Nox's apprentice, and killed a minion for approaching the Sith Lord.
Powers and abilities
- "I know that treachery…can break even the mightiest foe."
Kallig was able to channel the Force and adapt it in ways that suited a variety of needs, including subduing, stunning or killing of foes. Kallig was also an astonishingly proficient user of Force lightning. The young Sith was a proficient lightsaber duelist, utilizing either a standard lightsaber or a double-bladed lightsaber in combat. Kallig could combine skills with a lightsaber with mastery of the dark side, allowing Force Lightning to be channelled through Kallig's scorching lightsaber.
Proof of Kallig's power was demonstrated when Khem Val, the former servant of Tulak Hord, became one of Kallig's companions despite many powerful Dark Lords avoiding Khem Val while imprisoned in stasis due to the Dashade's Force immunity and record for killing and devouring even some of the most powerful Force sensitives.
The immediate aspiration for the young, powerful Sith apprentice and eventually Lord was ascension to the Dark Council. Kallig's strength in the dark side was enough to completely overpower a Dark Council member of Darth Thanaton's caliber. During their duel with Thanaton, Kallig demonstrated the ability to use Force deflection to fend off Force lightning, such as when Kallig effortlessly swatted aside Thanaton's Lightning attacks. Telekinesis was among the young Sith's talents, such as when Kallig threw Darth Thanaton clear across the Dark Council chamber. The Sith Inquisitor's telekinesis was also able to halt Darth Thanaton's lightsaber strike and force the experienced Sith Lord to his knees.
Kallig was immensely proficient in the use of Sith Magic, particularly the long forgotten Force Walk ritual to draw strength from multiple Sith spirits in order to explosively augment their power in the dark side. Their tremendously increased powers through the use of Force Walk was enough to overpower a Sith Lord as strong as Darth Thanaton. Kallig was also a proficient user of the Force Storm (weather), using it in combat against a variety of his enemies and attackers. The young Sith was also capable of using Force drain and used it to drain opponents while invigorating the young Sith and allies.
